Donald Houston "Buddy" Smith, age 61, of King, NC and formerly of Morehead City, NC, passed away peacefully due to health complications on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, NC. Known as "Buddy", he was a friend to many.
Buddy was born October 15, 1957, in Honolulu, Hawaii and grew up in Morehead City, NC throughout the majority of his life. He worked as a commercial fisherman and later as a carpenter for over 40 years. Buddy was an excellent cook and grill master and was an avid fan of NASCAR.
Buddy is survived by his loving spouse, Ginger Childress; daughters Christine Guthrie and husband Doug of Harker’s Island, NC; Kaycee Gray and husband Stephen Gray-Meadows of King, NC; sons Bryan Smith of Saegertown, PA; Sean H. Smith and wife Cheryl of Hampton, VA; and his sister Vonne Smith Lankford and husband David of Goldsboro, NC. He is also fondly loved and remembered by his grandchildren Parker Guthrie, Evan Guthrie, Stephen Meadows, Kayson Meadows, Kinsley Meadows, Cole Smith, Harper Smith, and Shawn Apthorp. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Buddy will remain forever in our hearts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jan Lee and Janet Marie Smith of Newport, NC; his brother Bill Smith of Wilmington, NC; and sisters Belinda Lee Smith and Edna Lynn Smith.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service in his honor on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 5:00pm at King Christian Center, 995 Brown Rd, King, NC. A reception for the immediate family will follow at the conclusion of the service.
