Bruce Milroy Obituary

Bruce Doolin Milroy, 76, of Charlotte, NC, peacefully went to be with his Lord in Heaven on January 6, 2024. Born in Washington, D.C. on March 9, 1947, Bruce is the son of the late Eva Marian Doolin Milroy and late Frederick T. Milroy, Sr.

Bruce grew up in Stillwater, OK after age 7 when his father passed away. He enjoyed his childhood with his sister Roma Lee Branham and brother Frederick (Rick) T. Milroy, Jr. with some of his favorite youthful pastimes being fishing and pigeon chasing with many dear friends, especially his best friend, Bob Thomas. With an early passion for entrepreneurship, he enjoyed catching frogs to sell at the local cafe and was an enthusiastic paperboy with encouragement from his older brother, Rick.

Bruce graduated from Oklahoma State University with a B.S. in Business Administration.  However, while attending college, he decided to join the U.S. Navy, ultimately serving in Vietnam alongside the U.S. Marines as a Corpsman. He gladly served his country in various capacities from April 12, 1966 until April 11, 1971 when he was honorably discharged. His ultimate goal was to be a pilot, so he applied and was accepted to Officer Candidate School. Unfortunately, Bruce was unable to complete OCS due to an injury.

In 1976, Bruce married his love Phyllis Jean Shropshire. As newlyweds, with the world ahead of them and adventure in their eyes, they took a career transfer opportunity whereby Charlotte, NC became their unexpected home for almost four decades. With delight and conviction, upon their arrival to Charlotte, the couple became members of Calvary Church where they sought to focus their lives on the Lord. Bruce was the proud father of Dr. Melody Inga Milroy, PharmD, Charlotte, NC and is revered for the way he supported his daughter's endeavors ranging from scholastics to swimming to political involvement.

Bruce enjoyed a thriving career in medical sales until he became a full-time entrepreneur in the unique space of hydroponics, proudly owning Edison Enterprises "Prime Harvest" for 15 years. He got the greatest enjoyment from socializing with family and friends and loved to make jokes. Bruce "never met a stranger" and had an uncanny way of making people feel special and included. Bruce will be most remembered for embodying the Fruits of the Spirit: "love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control" (Galatians 5:22-23).

Bruce later met his fiancé Ms. Karen Elaine Connor of Callahan, FL and enjoyed her companionship and loved her children and grandchildren.  Bruce and daughter Melody were also warmly welcomed into Karen's family.

To honor his legacy, Bruce leaves his daughter Dr. Melody Inga Milroy of Charlotte, NC; his brother Mr. Frederick (Rick) T., Jr. (sister-in-law Judy) Milroy of Tulsa, OK; and James "Jim" Branham of Havana, KS. He is preceded in death by his wife Phyllis Milroy and sister Roma Lee Branham. He leaves his beloved fiancé Ms. Karen Elaine Connor of Callahan, FL and a host of nieces, nephews, Jared Zoeller, Charles (Courtney) Zoeller, grandchildren Samuel, Lucy, Philip, Dominik Zoeller and Chase and Caleb Johnson.

Please join Bruce's family and friends for a "Celebration of Life" gathering on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 12:00 Noon at Calvary Church in the chapel. 5801 Pineville-Matthews Rd, Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Crown Room at Calvary to enjoy food and fellowship in Bruce's honor provided graciously by Calvary's Martha Ministry. Please honor Bruce's fight for life by considering a donation to your local blood bank. Special appreciation to Carolina Cremations, Winston-Salem for serving the family.
