Cathey Fisher Obituary

Cathey G. Fisher  11/10/41 – 9/29/2023

Cathey was born on 11/10/1941 to the late Katherine Cathey Sheppard, and Kelly Edward Sheppard.  Surviving are her loving husband of 61 years, Jack Fisher, Daughter, Kelliene Fisher, Grandchildren, Marissa Fisher-Cox, Jack Fisher, Brother, Tim Sheppard (Carla), Sister, Cherie Fletcher(Sonny), and her Fur Babies, Lacy, Callie, and Carley.

Cathey graduated Central High School in Charlotte, and attended Wingate College, with her degree.  She was a lady with many talents.  She taught herself how to twirl a baton, and became 1 of 5 Majorettes at her high school.  She also taught herself to twirl a fire baton, and she could do it like no other.

She was a very athletic, competitive, loving, giving, and caring person. Through the years, she was an avid bowler, bridge player, and tennis player.  She taught bowling, bridge, and gymnastics.  She coached gymnastics for 31 years, taking many kids to state.  She started the Program in Wilson NC, and she loved all her kids.  She would give her time for free to help the kids excel, because she didn't want it to be too expensive for the families.  There were many times she would pay their entry fees, so they could compete.  She took great pride in coaching, and produced top notch kids/gymnasts.

There wasn't a stray animal that would go hungry with her around.  She loved animals, and a lot of strays found a home in her house.  She always fed the wildlife outside too.  The animals near her house never needed food.

Cathey dearly loved her Church family at Greater St. Matthew, in Winston-Salem.  It was a place she called home.  She loved the music, people, and the beautiful voices in the choir.  It is a place you cannot stay seated during the service, because you are too busy clapping, dancing, and rejoicing in God.

Nonnie, as her grandchildren called her, was a very loving grandmother.  She was also the best mom a daughter could have, and a wonderful wife to her husband, Jack.  She is, and will continue to be greatly missed. Heaven definitely gained an angel.

Her Celebration of Life Ceremony will be on November 11,2023, at 1:00 PM, Greater St. Matthew Baptist Church, 149 Wheeler Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
