Howard Cox Obituary
Howard Edward Cox, age 87 of Greensboro, North Carolina passed away on Sunday morning, January 14th peacefully at his home.
Mr. Cox was born on May 23, 1936 in Marietta, South Carolina to the late Mattie Sue McClure Cox & Boyce Cox.
He & his wife of 64 years, Nellie, have two children, Jonathan (Angela) Cox of Pageland, South Carolina & Jill (Tim) Gossage of Greensboro, North Carolina. He has three granddaughters, Melissa (Drew) Patton of New Douglas, Illinois, Kristin (Grant) Cooke of Chesterfield, South Carolina & Ashley Cox of Chelsea, Alabama; as well as eight living great-grandchildren & one in Heaven.
He was preceded in death by his two brothers Kenneth Cox & Gary Cox. He leaves behind two sisters, Linda Sue Wallace & husband Clyde Watson & Rebecca Looper & husband James Looper, both of South Carolina. Those left to cherish his memory also include many nieces & nephews, as well as too many friends to count.
He graduated from Slater-Marietta High School in South Carolina in 1954 after which he served in the Air Force. After his stint in the Air Force he worked in Greensboro for Sears Roebuck for several years until he became self-employed in multiple business ventures.
Mr. Cox was a former member of Lawndale Baptist Church. He was a charter member of Cornerstone Baptist Church & hosted the church “pig picking” for 37 years. He loved woodworking & spending time outdoors.
A celebration of life service will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, January 19th at Cornerstone Baptist Church. The family will receive friends & refreshments will be served in the Family Life Center immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cornerstone Baptist Benevolence Fund.
If you do wish to send flowers, they may be sent to the church.
