Howard Northrup Obituary

Howard Neal Northrup passed away Dec 16, 2022. He was born May 14, 1930 on the family farm in Coles Clove, town of Colchester, Delaware County. The first of six children of Frank A. and Florence E. Jacobson Northrup. He resided in Walton for many years. He was married three times, first to Ina Barnes, then Cynthia Manzer and Betty Banks.

He is survived by his three children, Donna Bundy (Bill) of Walton, Marvin Northrup of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Walter Northrup (Deb Beers) of Oneonta. He has nine grandchildren, Lisa Bundy of Sidney, Keith Bundy of Walton, Megan Northrup Brooks (Josh) of Clemmons, N.C., Ryan Northrup, Hanover, Md., Kevin Northrup (Elizabeth) of Columbus, N.C., Katelyn Northrup of Thomasville, N.C., Nicole Northrup Pusch, Jaclyn Northrup, and Benjamin Northrup all from Tuscaloosa, Ala.; great-grandchildren Sarah and Ella Northrup in North Carolina and Liam and Lilly Bundy in New York; sisters-in-law Cecelia and Linda Northrup of Walton, Marjorie Burgin of Andes and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Predeceasing him are his brothers Milton Northrup, Richard Northrup, James Northrup and Roger Northrup and sister, Elinor Northrup Green Pritchard.

Neal moved with his family from the family farm in Coles Clove to Walton in 1942 and lived in the Walton area for the majority of his life. He attended one-room schoolhouses in Colchester and Walton and then later attended Walton Central School.

Neal worked 20 years at S.J. Bailey as a machine operator and 28 years at the Walton Reporter as a press operator, retiring in 1994.

Neal enjoyed dancing and collecting antiques, especially depression glass and railroad items. He was an antique and collectible dealer for many years.

He was a member of the Walton National Guard from 1948 to 1959, attaining rank of Sergeant First Class, 27th Infantry.

He was a Member of the Walton American Legion, Walton Theatre Restoration Committee and Plymouth Church.

Neal loved to travel.

Graveside services will be held in the spring at a date and time to be determined.
