James Hanks

Mr. James Hanks, age 60 of Dobson, passed away at his home on Friday evening, June 23rd 2023 with his loving wife sitting by his side holding his hand.

Mr. Hanks was born on December 29, 1962 in Grayson County, Virginia to the late Luther Joseph Hanks & Ida Louise Roberts Hanks.

James, known as "Grumpy" by his loved ones, lived his life to the fullest.  His nickname did not reflect his loving & joyful personality.  When he lived in Virginia, he worked for Haynes in Galax.  Recently, he was self-employed as a landscaper & he enjoyed being his own boss.  His favorite thing to do was anything that involved helping people.  Grumpy loved the smell of fresh cut grass.  When he wasn't working or helping people in the community, you could find him somewhere fishing.  He loved the lord & his family is finding comfort knowing that he is pain free & rejoicing with his loved ones in Heaven.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 30 years, Dennette Darlene Faye Duncan Hanks; his son, Devin Hanks; his siblings, Judy Royal, Sue Loggins, Danny Ray & Larry Wayne; along with his nieces & nephews & all of his many friends.

In addition to his parents Luther Joseph Hanks & Ida Louise Hanks, Grumpy was also preceded in death by his brothers, Luther Hanks, Jr. &  Thomas Westley "Red" Hanks.

James said that this song was made for him, Born a Rambling Man..."Trying to make a living doing the best I can.  When it's time for leaving, I hope you understand.  Cause I was born a rambling man."
