Joseph Carl Corsbie

Mr. Joseph Carl Corsbie, age 71 of Dobson, passed away at his home on Thursday, July 13th 2023.

Mr. Corsbie was born on December 27th 1951 to the late Martha & David "Walter" Corsbie, Jr.

Joseph held many jobs during his life.  He was an ordained minister who worked as a security guard, store cashier & even a department store Santa Claus.

Between 2012 & 2014, Josephs name became well known.  His name & photo were printed in newspapers, not just across the country, but across the world.  He was featured in the New York Times & the Times of Israel.  His father, Walter Corsbie was a WWII vet that was given a peculiar "souvenir" from a Jewish survivor of Dachau, just weeks after that concentration camp was liberated.  He was given a small amount of cremated remains from one of the crematories at the concentration camp & told to never forget what happened there.  The little box with these remains were passed down to Joseph.  In 2012, he decided that it was time that the remains of this poor soul be laid to rest.  With the help of the parishioners from a synagogue in Durham, he was able to make this happen in May of 2014.

Although Joseph was never married & had no children, his memory & legacy will live on in the hearts & memories of all of the people who know about what he did.  

No formal services have been planned.  Carolina Cremation Center is respectfully handling the care of Mr. Corsbie.
