Nannette Michelle Raby

Nannette Michelle Raby, age 61, of King, NC passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 1, 2023, from complications due to Lung Cancer she had very recently been diagnosed with.  Nannette was born in Winston Salem, NC on February 8, 1962, to the late Edgar R. Lark Sr. and the late Glenda C. Walker-Hicks. She graduated from college with a Nursing degree. She practiced nursing for many years before fully devoting her life to her children and becoming a Stay-at-Home Mom until moving back home to North Carolina from Virginia. She then worked for the Stokes County YMCA as an After School Program Supervisor and then became their YMCA Camp Director.  She was a lover of music, animals, spending time outdoors and watching her crime dramas and scary movies. Nannette also loved studying the word of Jehovah with the members of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in King, NC. 

Nannette’s passion in life was her grandchildren. Being a Nana was her greatest joy in life. She had a heart of gold and anyone who had the privilege of meeting her got to experience just how big of a heart she had and how much love and joy she brought into every day. 

She is preceded in death by her mother and father, her stepfather William Hicks Jr., her late ex-husband and best friend Donald M. Raby, her brothers Edgar (Junior) Lark Jr. and Larry Wayne Lark, her nephew Christopher Lark, her fur-babies Nugget, Lady, My Lady and many other loved family members in heaven. 

Left to cherish her memory include her son Samuel L. Killion Jr., his wife Amanda B. Killion and their children Parker and Lucas Killion.  Her daughter Latasha (Nikki) Collins, her husband Casey B. Collins and their children Payton and Hunter Collins.  Her daughter Monica K. Raby-Abell, her husband Matthew Abell and their children Avery (Boo) Raby, Kourtney (Kori) Raby, Madison (Maddie) Michelle Raby, Evan Barclay, Gavin Cannon, Owen Cannon, James Abell and Emma Abell.  Her brother Ronald D. Lark.  Her nieces Honestie Michelle Lark and Austyn Lark and her nephews Seth Lark and Jackson Stohler. As well as many other loving family members and friends.  

Her family will be having a Celebration of Life with family and friends on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Pilot Mountain, NC at 4 pm. We will be celebrating with her favorite music, good food, loving memories and ending with a balloon release in her honor.
