Reece Smith, Jr Obituary

Reece Bynum Smith Jr., 72, passed away on Thursday July 25, 2019 at home surrounded by his loving family in Kernersville, NC. Reece was born August 1, 1946 in Greensboro, NC to the late Reece Sr. and Mary Smith. He was the oldest of 2 children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his nephew Kevin Smith, of Lexington, and beloved dog Coda. Surviving are his beloved wife, Barbara Breeden Smith of the home, brother, Tommy Smith (Betty) of Florida, daughters Stacie Smith (Don) of Durham and Christy Smith Kranzler (George) of Kernersville, granddaughters, Casey Reece Kranzler, Gabriela Camille Kranzler, Savannah Rose Kranzler, Kendra Shae Kranzler, and great granddaughter Aidyn Haliya Sears. Reece, a US Navy veteran, was known by many names, Pawpaw, Little Reece, RB, Reece Cup, The Cup, Mother’s Father, My achin’, Tootsie, Raisin number 1, and Bubba. Known as a kind and gentle man who loved to fish and adored every dog he’s ever met. He was an avid fan of the Carolina Tarheels and enjoyed spending his free time playing pool with his friends. Reece retired from Hubbell Industries after 40 years of hard work and dedication. The family would like to extend its warmest appreciation to Trellis Supportive Care namely his incredible nurse, Laura, and granddaughter in law Stephanie Pendry for the compassionate care Reece received in his final days. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request donations to AARF in Reece’s name to continue his work rescuing dogs. A memorial service will be held at the home of Christy Sunday August 4th from 4-8 pm. for those who would like to attend.
