Robert (Bob) Walthall died peacefully on July 22, 2023. Bob was a prolific writer and poet. He taught English literature and poetry at Roxbury Community College and Winston-Salem State University.

Bob was a proud honorary member of Harvard Radio Broadcasting, a student operated radio station. He hosted The S.A.N.E. Society Show on WHRB from 1970-1987, where he integrated his philosophical poetry with music.

In the course of his life, Bob worked as a professional musician, playing alto sax and guitar with Jimmy Cheatham’s band; as a union steeple jack painter; and in medical transportation.

Bob was born November 4, 1934, in Buffalo, NY. He moved to Boston, MA with his beloved wife, Joan, in 1961.  Here, they raised their 4 children: Robert Tracy, Lathan, Trevor, and Cynnamon.

After the death of his wife of 50 years, Bob relocated to Winston-Salem, NC and continued to work as an educator and writer until his death.

Bob’s memory will be cherished by his children, grandchildren, friends, and students.
