Thomas Taylor, Jr. Obituary

Thomas Hugh Taylor, Jr., 69, passed away on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte, NC.

“T-Texas Taylor,” as his family affectionately called him, was a beloved husband, devoted parent and doting grandparent. He was born on December 11, 1951 in Denison, TX to Thomas, Sr. and Alice Taylor. He was the second of six children. He entered the Marine Corps in 1971 and received an honorable discharge after serving two years at Camp Pendleton, CA. He spent much of his adult life in Tucson, AZ with his immediate family, and his career relocated him to Charlotte in 1989.

His decades-long career in quality control led him from Burr-Brown Corporation, to IBM, and lastly Philip Morris where he retired. He was a hard-working and innovative employee and a lifelong, avid learner—even returning to college in his 60s to continue his education at Central Piedmont Community College.

He was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church where he volunteered running the sound board for services and fostered community in East Charlotte through fun-filled neighborhood events.

He enjoyed gardening, working on cars and trucks, watching speculative fiction films, reading, and photography among many other hobbies and talents. He could mostly be found outside, working in his yard, enjoying nature and greeting passersby.

He is survived by his siblings, high school sweetheart and wife of 37 years, Cathy Taylor, his children, and grandchildren.

His memorial will be held virtually on April 10 at 11am. To attend, please send an email to office@memorialunitedmethodist.org.
