Wendy Evans Obituary

Wendy Greene Evans (né Wendy Jean Greene) passed away Friday morning, September 20th, 2019, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. It’s sad that she left us now, when the iconography of Halloween is all around; spiders, bats, witches and ghosts (as well as dragons) were some of her year-round favorites.
The daughter of Joan I. and Arnold V. Greene, Wendy was born, on June 22nd, 1955, into small-town rural life in Boscobel, Wisconsin. From there, her journey would take her to Winston-Salem, NC, where she married her husband, Johnny; to Sumter, SC, where she raised her son; back to Boscobel to her beloved Farm where she saw her mother through to the end of her life; and, finally, back to Winston to live with her kids and grandkids.
A graduate of R.J. Reynolds high school, Wendy was an avid reader and television viewer; some of her animated favorites included Felix the Cat and Mickey Mouse. A David Bowie fan, she counted Labyrinth among her favorite movies, as well as Dirty Dancing. She was not a sports fan, but, at times, she did cheer for the NFL teams in Washington and Miami, as well as the Green Bay Packers and (don’t tell her Wisconsin fam) the Chicago Bears, when Jay Cutler was their quarterback.
Wendy was a soul versatile enough to name her only child with a name from the Bible, and to also find value in other spiritual touchstones, such as Buddha, Wicca, Tarot, and reincarnation. A stay-at-home mom who went to work when her family needed her to, she was always willing to sacrifice and give of herself for those she loved. She was practical, no-nonsense, but with acceptance of and a love for all living things.
Predeceased by her parents, husband, and older brother Leslie, Wendy is survived by her son, Matthew, and daughter-in-law Christina; her grandchildren Marcus, Alexx, Dylan and Johnny; great-granddaughter Brooklynn; siblings Randa and Philip; and sister-in law Sally. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation in her honor to the ASPCA.
